Chinese herbal medicine is an important branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine and is often used in a treatment plan alongside acupuncture and bodywork. Chinese herbal medications are effective to treat a number of health conditions based on individualized patient diagnosis. Traditionally, customized formulas were dispensed as raw herbs requiring cooking into a tea. In our clinic, we will be prescribing granulated powders to dissolve in warm water, or as patent pills. Treatments typically run from one week to several months and require reassessment to ensure safety and efficacy of the medicine over time.

Proposed food therapies are based on the 8 dualistic principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Yin / Yang, Hot / Cold, Excess / Deficiency and Internal / External). Certain recipes may be recommended when addressing a certain health condition, during different seasons of the year, when recovering from an illness or when treating a common cold or flu.
